The environmental Kuznets curve is a relationship between various indicators of environmental degradation and income per capita. The EKC hypothesis states that environmental degradation worsens as economic growth increases, however after reaching a certain level of GDP per capita, it begins to decrease. The aim of the paper is to test the validity of the environmental Kuznets curve in Arab countries in the period from 1980 to 2017. This paper required the construction and testing of quadratic models using panel data models. The results of the analysis showed that economic growth affects carbon dioxide emissions in the Arab countries as a group. The results were also different between the Arab oil exporters and other countries. Jel Classification Codes : Q53; Q56
