Circular Start-ups – A New Typology For Sustainable Entrepreneurship

Abstract

The circular economy is becoming an increasingly discussed topic within business, yet incumbents still struggle with implementing circular strategies. Start-ups, however, prove a promising avenue for the implementation of new innovations such as circularity. While currently in the entrepreneurial space, many founders are trying to create circular start-ups, and awards and programs specifically focussed on supporting them. This study aimed to identify startups and their most important characteristics, in addition to the areas of application of these companies for their business and the results reached. This study aimed to differentiate between traditional entrepreneurship, sustainable entrepreneurship and circular start-ups and concluded that circular startups aim to prolong life and promote the effective use of natural resources in the production chain and the aim is the optimal use of natural resources and their reuse.
