Innovation And Research Policy Analisys –evidence From Algeria

Abstract

In order to obtain a superior and a stable position in the marketplace; nowadays, firms, worldwide, aim to obtain a competitive advantage through focusing on Innovation which has been theoretically and empirically proved to be one of the best tools used for this purpose. In the last few decades; the literature has shown that the growth in the stock of knowledge has been the most important factor behind the dramatic rise in living standards in countries that show a broad convergence in macroeconomic performance. Meanwhile; Innovation has been well studied but this doesn’t mean that it has been well understood; and especially with the various determinants which affect the innovativeness of any firm or economy. Thereby; countries all around the globe are paying a great attention to Innovation as well as to the whole system of national innovation system; While some other countries are still in need to gather their efforts in ways that drive the innovation activities development. This paper aims at identifying the main characteristics of the NIS of Algeria, in addition to highlighting the key innovation problems and obstacles of local firms. Our work is based on a field research carried out on a sample of industrial firms, the analysis of the results of our survey through using the Binary Logistic Model helped identifying a roadmap for initiating and enhancing innovation within the Algerian economy, as well as emphasizing the main obstacles that face Innovation in Algeria.
