الملخص

The purpose of this article was to study achievement motivation in its relation to prior achievement and success in decisive exams such as Baccalaureate. Participated in the study 262 high school students (162 females, 100 males), and 131 passed the final exam of Baccalaureate, randomly chosen from three different high schools. Hermans’ achievement motivation scale was used to measure motivation. Prior achievement (GPA) and the final results of Baccalaureate exam were obtained from the official sources of the different schools where the study was undertaken. The results demonstrated a strong correlation between achievement motivation and prior achievement and final results of Baccalaureate exam. The study of standard and stepwise regression showed the ability of prior achievement in predicting levels of final results of decisive exams such as Baccalaureate. The study concluded that prior achievement was the best predictor of final exams’ success or failure. And that prior achievement mediates achievement motivation and achievement in Baccalaureate exam.
