الملخص
After the failure of popular resistance to French colonialism Algeria witnessed a transitional period before the emergence of the national movement with its political parties and organizations. This period was famous for the emergence of a group of leading Algerian intellectuals, known as Algerian Youth who did not form a political party, and did not reflect a specific organization or ideology; it was a translation of the activities of groups and sometimes individuals who wanted to express themselves and achieve their demands by various means such as the press, cultural associations and clubs. We aim in this study to shed light on the activity of the Algerian elite in the field of journalism, and how the latter contributed to the definition of Algerian issues at a time when French control was complete and the exclusion of Algerians was almost complete.We have taken as case study the newspaper “Al-Haq” (1893-1894) in Hippone (Annaba), trying to tackle such issues as the general intent and political direction of the newspaper, the attitude of French authorities towards it, and the extent to which it served the Algerian cause.
