Sexual harassment of women working in Algerian society: Its causes, effects, and ways of confronting it

عـمتوت كمال,
2023-01-11

Résumé: The media frequently raisesa fuss about the high rates of violence against women in Algerian society .However; the sociologist is surprised by the lack of simpler indicators to measure the levels and trends of violence when reading articles on the topic. In this context, the study aims to highlight the phenomenon of sexual harassmentas a form of violence against workingwomen, in particular, as it has become part of Algerian society’s everyday discourse. As a result, the researcher must employ a descriptive approach to identify this phenomenon and attempt to comprehend and discuss it, as well as determine significance and identify its causes and effects. The following findings have been reached: sexual harassment against working women is not treated as a social problem associated with social construction or a value imbalance, but rather as a reality and social behavior occurring in the context of interactive relationships between individuals in their family or professional life, which may threaten the family and career stability of working women.

Social and Ethical Impacts of Snapchat Use Among Algerian Children

حيمر سعيدة,
2024-07-13

Résumé: We conducted a study to explore the impact of a specific application on Algerian children's social interactions and development. Using structured observation tools and unstructured interviews, we collected data from a purposive sample of twenty children aged two to twelve and their parents. The study was conducted virtually with a descriptive-analytical approach, providing in-depth insights into the application’s use and effects. Our findings revealed that the application influenced children's relationships with their families, friends, and society. It played a significant role in their socialization process, affecting interactions and social norms perception. Parents reported both positive changes, such as improved communication skills and increased peer engagement, and concerns like reduced face-to-face interactions. The study highlighted the dual nature of the application's impact, offering both opportunities for connection and challenges like screen time management. Parental guidance emerged as crucial in balancing these effects. Overall, the research emphasizes a balanced approach to technology use, suggesting that with proper oversight, digital applications can be valuable for children's social development.
