Introducing Community Engagement Pedagogy As A Means To Promote Efl Learners Conversational Skills In Higher Education: A Case Study

Abstract

Community engagement pedagogy is a teaching and learning approach that seamlessly incorporates hands-on experiences into the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom, augmenting the language learning process within a broader societal context. It forges a vital connection between students’ personal and social growth and their academic and cognitive development. It aims to elucidate the pivotal role of community engagement pedagogy in enhancing Conversational skills of EFL students. For data collection, a 14-item questionnaire was administered to a sample of 16 talented Algerian student club members (N=16). Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were employed for analysis. The results indicated that 60% of the entire population is aware of the significance of community engagement pedagogy within Algerian universities.
