Impact Of Covid-19 Pandemic On Psychological Status And Distance Learning Among Moroccan Students: A Survey Study

Abstract

COVID-19 was recognized to be a major danger worldwide to population health, influencing their behavior and triggering anxiety and depression. In this study, we aimed to assess the quarantine and distance learning impact, sudden implementation in response to COVID-19, on Moroccan student performance. We used an online semi-structured self-administered questionnaire. Results revealed that all students experienced stress, anxiety and depression with females presenting the greater impact. Using mainly social media, the majority of students (65%) spent less than eight hours per week following their courses. Only 21% of students achieved a good understanding of the courses. Nonetheless, many difficulties were identified among learners, especially poor access to the internet network, unavailability of communication tools, and eye pain due to excessive use of electronic tool screens. We presented practical propositions that could improve the distance learning process, and thus cope with the weaknesses that were perceived during this unprecedented period
