Le Barbouillage Des Panneaux De Signalisation En Kabylie : Un Moyen De Revendication Linguistique Et Identitaire

Résumé Le phénomène de barbouillage existe dans de nombreux pays. Il est attesté en Algérie plus précisément en Kabylie. Le barbouillage cible de façon ostentatoire les inscriptions en langue arabe, rarement les caractères latins. Les lettres arabes se retrouvent alors complètement immaculées de peinture pour les remplacer par des inscriptions en tamazight, généralement en caractères tifinagh. Ces toponymes sont également retranscrits afin de les désarabiser. Dans cette contribution, nous nous intéressons principalement à la toponymie en Algérie (la région de la Kabylie) et au barbouillage des panneaux de signalisation ayant un rapport avec celle-ci. Nous rattacherons ce thème à la problématique de la question identitaire. Notre objectif consiste à expliquer et comprendre les raisons de l’existence du barbouillage. Road Signs Blurring in Kabylia: a means of claiming language and identity The phenomenon of blurring written signs exists in many countries. It is observed in Algeria and more particularly in Kabylia. The blurring targets mainly the inscriptions in Arabic language, rarely the ones using Latin characters. The Arabic letters are then, completely masked by painting and are replaced by inscriptions in Tamazight, generally using tifinagh characters. The toponyms are rewritten in Tifinaghso as to erase any sign of arabisation. In this paper, we aim at shedding light on toponymy in Algeria (the region of Kabylia) and in the blurring of signs related to it. We will relate this phenomenon to the issues of the quest of identity. Our goal is to explain and understand the reasons for the existence of blurrings.
