ملخص: مع بداية القرن العشرين بدأت تظهر في الأفق سياسة فرنسية جديدة تسعى إلى السيطرة على الإنسان والمجال بعد أن كان الوجود الفرنسي قبل ذلك مقتصرا على العلاقات التجارية المحضة ولم يتسرب إليها البعد التوسعي الإستعماري. حاولنا في هذا المقال تتبع مسيرة الوجود الفرنسي وكيفية سيطرته على البلاد وطبيعة معاملته للأهالي، وهي مسيرة بطبيعة الحال لم تكن مفروشة بالورود بل تكبد فيها المستعمر الكثير من الخسائر البشرية والمادية, واستطاعت المقاومة الوطنية أن تجعل المستعمر في مرات عديدة يغير سياساته ومواقفه تجاه السكان. By the beginning of the twentieth century, a new French policy had begun to emerge that seeks to dominate man and space after the French presence had previously been limited to purely commercial relations and had not been infiltrated by the colonial expansionist dimension. In this article we tried to keep track of the march of the French presence and how it controlled the country and the nature of its treatment of the people. It was, of course, not furnished with roses, but in which the colonizer suffered considerable human and material losses, and the national resistance had many times changed the colonizer's policies and attitudes towards the population.
