Résumé

This article proposes a number of avenues of exploration in the fields of language and society. Reference is made to concepts such as training and acquisition of the Mother tongue and second and/or foreign languages. Another issue at stake relates to sociocultural aspects that go on a par with the sociocultural environment of the language in question. Languages are then seen from the point of view of their functionality per se. This article proceeds to a brief introduction to key concepts like corpus planning, status planning, and diglossia that need to be taken into account for a better language management enterprise. It concludes with a brief discussion on education, the school, and cultural values within the general debate on language and society.
