Résumé

The aim of the current study was to analyse the effect of the maximum temperatures during of the post-anthesis on the expression of the weight of 1000 grains of durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.). Ten genotypes contrasted of durum wheat are sowed in the experimental site of the agronomic research station of the technical institute of field crops (ITGC) of Setif (Algeria) during six annual programs from 1997/1998 to 2002/2003. The results indicate that the maximum temperature of May month induced large variations in the expression of the weight of 1000 grains for more of the genotypes except those which are tolerant, as it is the case of Ads497 and Heider/Martes/Huevos de Oro. The study showed a negative relationship between the number of grains per unit of area and the weight of 1000 grains. The high temperatures decreased the duration of filling, accelerated the foliar senescence and increased the speed of filling. These factors generate strong irregularities of the output. In order to improve the weight of 1000 grains, it is recommended to select genotypes able to prolog their photosynthetic activities in condition of stress and to transfer their products towards the grains.
