Peacebuilding From Sustainable Development Perspective In Africa: Parallel Paths

الكاتب : بوسنية سعاد .

الملخص

This study is based on the assumption that the relationship between peace-building and sustainable development is complex, but indisputable. Many poorest countries in the world, especially in Africa, have witnessed violent conflicts centred mainly on identity determinants, exacerbated by other factors such as the fragility of the nation-state, low economic performance, and weak levels of development, which posed real challenges to building sustainable peace on the continent. Peace-building processes aim to end and prevent the relapse into conflict. Peace goes beyond the absence of war and direct violence to create necessary conditions for positively transforming conflict into cooperative behavior based on the values of dialogue, coexistence, tolerance, solidarity, and the rejection of violence in all its forms. The study illustrates the importance of sustainable development as an approach for promoting sustainable peace-building in Africa, which requires sustained efforts that address not only the military dimensions of conflict, but also its political, economic, social, and humanitarian dimensions, namely the imperative of adopting an objective vision linking security and sustainable development as a basis for building lasting peace within a broader integrative project.
