This article attempts to shed light on the concept of disambiguation and how it can be applied in the domain of translation. It provides explanations and definitions of ambiguity and disambiguation as well as examples concerning both concepts. It presents illustrations about how to avoid ambiguity in translation taking into consideration the case of certain examples translated from Arabic to French and English. Finally, the article tackles the techniques employed for disambiguation such as the use of semantic relations, the translation of the sense of the text and the use of computerassisted translation.
