Abstract

The main objective of this work is to analyze the contact pressure and the shear stress on the contact area under fretting-fatigue loading. The nonlinear finite element method, based on the calculation of normal and shear stresses, was used to analyze the crack initiation in the contact zone. The effect of shear force on the distribution of normal and shear stresses has been highlighted. A multiaxial fatigue criterion is used to locate the position of crack initiation in the contact zone. the application of fracture mechanics based on the determination of the stress intensity factor SIF to study the fracture behavior of titanium alloys. A good correlation was found between the FEM simulations and the analytical results.
