The Challenges Of Translation In Third World Literatures: The Case Of English-speaking Africa

Authors : Hocine Maoui .

Abstract

Translating literatures is one of the most challenging and complicated processes ever undertaken. African literatures in this regard can be described as a kind of literature that is written in a foreign language of the colonizer that is mostly English or French to the mother language of the native readers in a paradox of manner and matter. This paper explores the problem of translating the cultural and linguistic features of the African literatures written in English and the difficulties arising from this shift between languages and culture particularly from English to any other European languages and more particularly in dealing with African-bound terms.
