CHINA- INDIA BORDER CRISIS: CAUSES AND IMPLICATIONS 1962-2023

Agubamah Edgar,
2024-05-07

Résumé: Abstract More than seventy years, the Sino-Indo border crisis has become an endless imbroglio with no settlement in the near feature. Exchanges between the two Asian giants have soured over the last decade, particularly following a 2020 boundary skirmishes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan area. The issue of a disputed border emerged in the early 1950s when the People’s Republic of China affected her capture of Tibet, an act which created for China and India one of the lengthiest undefined boundaries in the globe. The China-India border stretches for approximately 3,488 kilometers (2,167 miles) across the Himalayan mountains range, separating the two countries. The main areas of contention are the western sector (Aksai Chin region administered by China but claimed by India) and the eastern sector (Arunachal Pradesh region administered by India but claimed by China). This dispute has led to several military standoffs and border skirmishes over the years. The intricate and protractedness of this border conflict made this work to try to find out the causes and implications of this crisis to the Asian region and the world generally. To do this effectively we employ the secondary sources where data were collected from textbooks, diplomatic records, academic literature, newspapers, journals, magazines, and internet materials. The data collected were analyzed through documentary evidence while the contested border and territorial nationalism theory was used as the analytical tool. The work discovered that factors like unresolved border issues, historical crisis, strategic concerns, ideological biases, failed diplomatic negotiations, military considerations, Tibetan refugees’ crisis, cold war dynamics, and limited communications were some of the issues that led to the border crisis between the two Asian giants. Furthermore, the work found out that the implications engendered by the China-India border crisis are serious and expansive like heavy militarization of the China-Indian border, strategic instability in Asia, India’s more assertive foreign policy, China global image damage, policy implications, and arm race between the two Asian giants. The work concluded that these Asian giants should strive for harmonious and sustainable joint boundary commission that will map and mark their boundary as this option if meticulously and strictly followed will tremendously benefit both and all.

من الرواية إلى السرد التوثيقي - قراءة في "تسع عشرة امرأة.. سوريات يروين" لسمر يزبك From Novel to Documentary Narrative Reading in "Nineteen Syrian Women tell" by Samar Yazbeck

حنطابلي زوليخة,
2024-05-19

This article is based on a reading of the tragedy literature that resulted from the events of the Arab Spring through the book "Nineteen Women" by the Syrian writer Samar Yazbak, where we will focus on the content of the text and the template that the writer saw when she deviated from the writing path from the novel to the documentary narrative. We will also try to answer the questions imposed by this text, which is composed behind it, about the reason for its reluctance to narrate and leave the entire field to a number of narrators who lived the event and Aden to talk about it in freedom and reference. The aim is to identify the most important differences between narrative as a generic genre and the novel as a type of it, as well as the reasons for choosing the writer or turning her from the novel to the documentary narrative.

A study of “Womanhood” as Symbols to Further Colonial, Nationalist, and Religious Communal Agendas in the Indian subcontinent.

Faisal Hafiz Shahrear,  Mahmood Mahim Saif,
2024-05-12

Résumé: This study delves into the historical exploitation of women as symbols to advance colonial, nationalist, and religious communal agendas, particularly focusing on the Indian subcontinent. Through an analysis of various events, including the British response to widow immolation, the Bengal Renaissance, and the aftermath of the Partition of India, the study highlights how women's plight was manipulated to serve broader political goals. Drawing from sources such as Tanika Sarkar's "Rebels, Wives, Saints" and Urvashi Butalia's "The Other Side of Silence," the study underscores the dual nature of women's victimization: first by patriarchal structures and then by the instrumentalization of their suffering to bolster ideological narratives. It argues that despite purported humanitarian concerns, women's agency and well-being were often overlooked, with their experiences reduced to mere symbols in the pursuit of power and national identity. This study aims to shed light on the complex intersections of gender, politics, and power dynamics in historical contexts. By examining the instrumentalization of women's suffering for political ends, it prompts reflection on the ethical implications of using marginalized groups as symbols to promote ostensibly progressive agendas.

All these put together may work against innovative ideas that existed with the UBE programme as stipulated in the Basic Education Act of 2004. The paper concluded and recommended the following among others, the actual statistics of out-of-school children should be obtained and balanced provision of education resources to rehabilitate them should be done by the commission, and UBE teacher’s capacity building boost should be revisited to train many of them to acquire knowledge regarding UBE operations in addition to their existing academic qualifications.
