This paper examines, within the framework of a panel data models, the relation between the exchange rate regimes and economic growth for some Arab countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia) from 1980 to 2013. The results suggest a significant effect of exchange rate regime on growth, be it through a combination of increased trade and investment rates or that of a high degree of trade openness. It therefore appears that the abandonment of fixed regimes observed over the last decade is justified by an objective of stable production.
