Macroeconomic Stabilization Reform In Algeria:1990-2011

Authors : Akacem Kada . Akacem Mohamed .

Abstract

Algeria started implementing, since the nineties and under the supervision of the IMF, a set of economic reforms in its journey towards a free-market economic system. However, in spite of having been started more than two decades ago the transitional process is far from being completed. Except for the macroeconomic stabilization reform, the performance of Algeria in all other areas illustrates more a kind of patchwork than a coherent and well-structured program of transition. But, even the relative success of the macroeconomic stabilization policy is fading. The purpose of this paper is then to analyze this success and its decline.
