الملخص

The aim of this study is to shed light on two almost unknown ancient sites in the city of Algiers: one of them is a harbour basin designated by archaeologists as Cothon, and which was created by the Phoenicians when they built the walls of Ikosim (the ancient name of the city); the other site is a shipyard called the 'Arsenal of Khayr al-Dîn', named after the man who ordered its construction, the famous Khayr al-Dîn Barbarossa. We undertook this research on these two sites because the first is completely unknown, and the second almost as much. Moreover, they share many common denominators, perhaps the most important of which is that they occupied the same location on the city's waterfront. It should be noted, however, that the gap between their construction dates is equal to or greater than two thousand years and the fact that both port establishments had essentially the same orientation, i.e. maritime construction.
