This present research work consisted in the study of the mechanical behavior of a clay partially substituted by dune sand, which is found in an abundant way in Algeria (60% of the national territory). This sand has characteristics that allow to anticipate a valorization in the field of geotechnics, particularly for the improvement of the mechanical characteristics of clayey soils. The objective of this work was to experimentally evaluate the influence of dune sand on the mechanical behavior of a clay. An experimental program was conducted on samples of clay comprising 4, 6 and 8% dune sand as addition, through identification tests, Proctor, and shear strength measurements. The objective was to improve the use of dune sand from southern Algeria that is abundant in almost inexhaustible quantities. This study has shown a high mechanical performance of natural clay treated with dune sand.
