The Climatic Changes And Their Effects On The Food Security In The African Horn

Authors : Sonia Messaoudi .

Abstract

Climate change is an important issue that poses a threat to international society due to its long and short-term implications. It negatively affects human life and basic rights such as health, food, and security. In response, the international community has implemented institutional measures and mechanisms to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve adaptation to present and future climate changes, and build the abilities of developing countries. In this context, the African continent is particularly vulnerable to climate change. The region experiences high increases in temperatures and fluctuations in rainfall, which can lead to floods or droughts. Droughts are especially dangerous and represent a real menace to many countries, particularly those in the African Horn, where food insecurity is a pressing issue.
