Konstantin Der Große – Der Illegitime Vater Des Abendlandes

Auteurs : Menno Aden .

Résumé

The Roman Empire as a whole had become virtually ungovernable by AD 300. This led to the division of the empire by Emperor Diocletian. In the east with Greek, in the west with Latin as the lingua franca. The border ran roughly along the Drina in present-day Bosnia. In AD 323, Emperor Constantine reunited the empire. As a unifying bond he used the Christian religion and its organization. Constantine's measures in favor of the church became fundamental for the relationship between church and state as it developed in western Europe, the Occident. Was he an illegitimate father of the West? In any case, it is very doubtful whether Constantine himself was a Christian - if so,he was a very bad Christian, a brutal ruler who did not shy away from many murders. But he was the trigger for the victory of Christianity in Europe and with it the culture of Western Europe shaped by Christianity, which we call the Occident.
