Computer-assisted Audit Tools And Techniques: Advantages And Challenges

Abstract

This paper aims at exploring the implementation of computer-assisted audit tools and techniques (CAATTS). It tries to answer this problematic: what are the potential advantages and challenges that may face auditors when adopting CAATTS? This paper adopts a descriptive analytical method using qualitative secondary data. The main findings of this research include: The use of CAATTS increases the efficiency and effectiveness of audit work across different audit steps and activities, the main challenges are the lack of auditor’s IT competency and the complexity of computerized information system. Thus, a set of suggestions are proposed to increase the usefulness of CAATTS, namely the necessity to render the different accounting software homogeneous and to develop auditing software accordingly; further, the obligation of CAATTS' mastery as a condition to deliver the certificates of chartered auditors. يهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة تطبيق أدوات وتقنيات التدقيق بمساعدة الكمبيوتر، وهو يحاول الإجابة على الإشكالية الآتية: ما هي المزايا والتحديات التي من المحتمل أن تواجه المدققين عند تطبيق أدوات وتقنيات التدقيق بمساعدة الكمبيوتر؟ تم اعتماد المنهج الوصفي التحليلي بالاعتماد على بيانات كيفية من الأدبيات السابقة. من أهم نتائج هذا البحث نجد أن استعمال هذه الأدوات والتقنيات تزيد من فعالية وكفاءة عملية التدقيق عبر مختلف المراحل والأنشطة، من جهة أخرى تتمثل التحديات الأساسية في نقص كفاءة المدقق في مجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات وزيادة تعقيد أنظمة المعلومات المحوسبة. تم اقتراح مجموعة من النقاط من أجل تعزيز الاستفادة من هذه الأدوات التقنيات، حيث تقترح هذه الدراسة، من أجل زيادة فعالية التدقيق، أنه يجب توفير تجانس أدنى بين مختلف البرمجيات المحاسبية وتطوير برامج تدقيق وفقا لذلك، بالإضافة إلى اشتراط التحكم الجيد في هذه الأدوات والتقنيات من أجل منح الاعتماد لممارسة مهنة التدقيق.
