الملخص

This paper will deal with the question of genealogy especially in Arabic background and also in Western background. It is well known that both Arabs and Westerners have shown a huge interest to the field of genealogy. Scientists and genealogists wrote tremendous books, which meant to trace the origins and branches of tribes, and considered the distribution and spread of human groups, in various regions and countries. The question of the genealogy and origins has a serious significance for religions. We can mention here the example of the different Jewish, Christian and Islamic points of view regarding the lineage and identity of Christ. So, the religious representation of genealogy has a great impact on the way the historical event is written and narrated, according to certain sort of interpretation and thinking. There is also a close relationship between genealogy and the political aspect. The main reasons of tracking the development of human groups and the permanent political changes, that have occurred, are due to the mechanisms of the strategic alliances and the competing groups which aime at coming to power and seeking glory. In its simple sense, Al Assabiyya is based on the common tribal origin. We should also notice that the representations of genealogy have to do with linguistic and semantics levels when we focus on the onomastics; especially its circumstances and contexts. Therefore, this is why it is important to study as much as possible the different contexts and foundations of genealogy. It is also interessant to determine the main representations of this science in the Arabic and Western sides.
