This paper investigates the effect of insurance sector on economic growth in Algeria using ARDL models and time series data for the period of 1980-2017. In the long run, all variables are cointegrated where a significant positive effect of non-life insurance premiums is found with an insignificant effect of life insurance premiums growth on real GDP. In the short run, there is a significant negative effect of non-life-insurance premiums and a significant negative effect of inflation on economic growth. The negative significant error correction term ECT means a 89.89% of the long run disequilibriums are corrected each year.
