Abstract

The waste water treatment plant (WWTP) of Maghnia is located at 5 km to the northwest of the city Maghnia (North-west of Algeria). It has been commissioned in 1999 in order to treat the waste water of the city and also to protect Boughrara dam against pollution. This plant is managed and exploited by the national sanitation service. The urban waste water depollution needs successive steps which involve physical, chemical and biological treatments. Besides of the huge volume of waste water, at least the treatment enables the elimination of the major part of carbonated pollution. In some processes the elimination of phosphorous and nitrogen is also achieved. The aim of this work is to estimate the performances and the efficiency of Maghnia’s plant by analyzing the different physicochemical parameters. This study has contributed to the comprehension of the different treatment steps of the domestic waste water and to estimate the treatment plant performances towards the protection of the natural field on the other side.
