Abstract
THE CONCEPT OF PEACE IN ISLAM AND THE MISUNDERSTANDING OF SOME VERSES IN THE QUR'AN AND THE SUNNAH ABSTRACT This paper attempts to trace the concept of peace, in peace studies, and more focused on the Islamic perspective. It mentioned that Peace in Islam is more comprehensive and holistic because it is a fruit of belief that starts within the individuals, the society and then the entire Muslim nation. The article then discusses and analyzes some allegations addressed against Islam. For instance, there are certain verses in the Qur’an and some traditions in the Sunnah that convey injunctions to kill non-Muslims. This research also demonstrates that the Prophet Mohamed (p.b.u.h) was never an aggressive leader who was after power, or even used his power to weaken his enemies; rather it was the opposite. Furthermore, this paper is intended to be a small step along the path proposed by many scholars for achieving and maintaining peace in our beautiful world.
