The Orientalism between structuralism and deconstruction Abstract Orientalim at present has excess the classical meaning about Orient and his legacy, especially after the revolution of structuralism and deconstruction as a new mode of reasoning in a diverse range of fields, including anthropology, sociology, literary criticism and economics. This Article about Orientalism is seeking to illustrate how the study of Arab and Islamic cultures was connected to European imperialism and its goal of maintaining power and hegemony over non-Europeans. And also tried to argue that the Orient has historically served as a symbolic marker of European superiority and modern cultural identity. For most specialists in this field, historical Orientalist literature was never interested in Islam as it is viewed and practiced by Arabs and Muslims. Rather, it was an exercise in self-identity created by means of defining the “other.” In other words, scholar like Said suggested that Orientalists treated others—in this case, Muslims and Arabs—as objects defined not in terms of their own discourses, but solely in terms of standards and definitions imposed on them from outside. Among the influences underlying these definitions was, in Said’s view, a long-standing Western concern with presenting Islam as opposed to Christianity. Key words: Orietalism - Orient -Structuralism - West – Semiology
