The Ecological Significance Of Toxin Production By Pseudomonas Syringae Pv. Tabaci In Soil And Rhizosphere.

Authors : Harzallah, D, . Larous, L. .

Abstract

Pseudomonas Syringae pv. tabaci is the causal agent of the wildfire disease of tobacco (Nicotiana spp.). It produces the clhorosis-inducing tabtoxin. The main aim of this research was to identify the role of tabtoxin production in the ecology and survira! of Pseudomonas Syringae pv. tabaci, in natural environ-ments. Experimental approach of this problem involved a comparison of the grow-th in soil and in the rhizosphere of wild-type strain of pv. tabaci [Tor ] with mutant that did not produce tabtoxin [Tor]. These strains are suitably marked with anti-biotic resistance. The Tox+ strain had no significant advantage over the Tor strain in sterile soi!, unsterile soil and in the rhizosphere.
