In this article, we intend to demonstrate, through an argument and after the evaluation of the writings of a few high school pupils, that reading is a preliminary basis for culminating in editorial expertise, especially at the level of coherence. We realize that the evaluation of pupils' writings in terms of coherence can only be carried out effectively through an in-depth study of their written productions before and after certain readings of selected texts. In this sense, this study highlights the need to read for better writing.
