الملخص
Religious Phenomenon from Ancient Societies to Modernity Religious phenomenon plays different social roles due to the evolutionary and historical context of the human kind. The role that the religious phenomenon played in the constitution of the ancient societies is totally different from that it plays in the societies of the modernity and postmodernity. Religious phenomenon has always been related to the meaning, and therefore to language. In the ancient societies religion was the symbolic sacredness and representation of the community. This symbolism enabled the language signs to penetrate the repertoire of human motivations and behavioral modes and to symbolically reconstruct it, a process that was the origin of the syntactically and semantically full-fledged language. While in the modern societies religion has lost its power to unify human society due to plurality and complexity. But still it does not lost its importance as a phenomenon that could give meaning to human life for the majority of human kind. The social role of the religion in modernity should attempt to balance between these two contradicted factors.
