Résumé

Indigenous breeds of chickens are playing an important role in poverty alleviation and improvement of family food security. This work aims to compare between two different genotypes : commercial strain and local chickenin terms of some morphologicaland anatomicaltraits. The study was carried out on 60 Sixty cocks (30 for each genotype)from Mazouna province (North west of Algeria).LCshowed the highest values for neck lenght, tarsus lenght and comb height (P<0,001). However, carcass yield, edibal offals (heart, gizzard and liver) and viscera weights were in favor of the commercial strain (P<0,001). Phenotypic correlations matrices revealed that body weight is moderately associated to body lenght (+0,40 ; P<0,05) and wingspan (+0,36 ; P<0,05) in industriel genotype. Except caracasse weight, there is no significant correlations between body weight and anatomical body composition in both genotypes (P>0,05). These finding may contribute to a better knowledge of the indigenous chickens in Algeria and needfurther studies to fully exploit their potentiel genetic.
