The Ottoman Algeria’s Fleet (1518-1830): The Navy That Made The State

Abstract

Dealing with the history of the Algerian marine is a very hard task as often affirmed Moulay Belhamissi1. It is a challenge too difficult to win, especially with insufficient means. However, it seems, through the numerous writings on Modern European cultural and political history from 1518 until 1830, that the subject still carries some interest and justifies the importance of one’s research on the Algerian fleet during the same period.
