Abstract

The following article seeks to show how contemporary African writers signify on the African warrior tradition to elaborate an ideal of heroism more relevant to modern times than the ideal of warrior at the heart of violence and political insta bility in many African countries today. The discussion is centred on Thomas Mofolo’s Chaka and Ayi Kwei Armah’s The Healers.
