الملخص
Upon landing on Algerian soil, the French military leaders were faced with fierce resistance of the people. Despite the policy of "scorched earth" adopted by General Bugeaud, hostilities continued throughout their advance across regions. They began to think about the best strategy to crush the resistance. Having realized that the Zaouia were the essential centers where Algerians drew their spirituality, their moral, political and social, they decided to reduce and neutralize them in order to destroy the cultural identity of this company.
