Algeria has maintained its reliance on imported foodstuffs from foreign nations to address its persistent food deficit, a challenge it has struggled to entirely eradicate despite the implementation of numerous agricultural development initiatives. The continued dependence on food imports, notably strategic staples like wheat, exposes the country to a multitude of risks. These risks encompass deliberate actions, such as using food as leverage in negotiations affecting national sovereignty or imposing economic sanctions, as well as uncontrollable factors such as natural disasters and pandemics. These variables collectively threaten Algeria's future food security. Consequently, this research paper underscores the imperative for Algeria to redouble its efforts in the agricultural sector to secure domestic food supply sustainably for its population.
