War Heroines: Yet Another Untold Story
Authors : Hadjari Meriem .
Abstract
This research focuses on the lived experiences of Algerian women during the War of Independence against French colonialism, drawing from a first-hand account obtained through interviews with my grandmother's sister, a courageous participant in the conflict. Through an oral history methodology, the study seeks to explore overlooked experiences, challenges and emotions anchored in her memories. This research aims not only to accomplish a memory duty and address a historical gap but also to shed light on the participation of women who may not have been directly involved in the armed struggle but played a significant role in combating colonialism behind the scenes. The article highlights the significance of incorporating these Algerian women's voices in shaping a comprehensive understanding of the War of Independence.
