Abstract

This paper aims at providing a survey of the development and types of language learning strategies (LLS) with a special emphasis on their usage in the writing skill. Besides, it investigates their use by Algerian EFL (English as a Foreign Language) first year students at the department of English language and literature at Batna 2 University. The study determines if the students are aware of the LLS that are used in writing and whether they are employing them. Data was collected during the academic year 2016–2017 from 63 students by means of a questionnaire designed by the author[ See appendix].
