The research uses a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Results show that formative assessment strategies, such as tests, self-reflection activities, feedback sessions, self and peer assessment, portfolios assessments and some written assignments helped in improving medicine students’ language proficiency and thus, positively impacted their academic achievement. Factors contributing to successful learning included highlighted learning objectives, a encouraging learning atmosphere, efficient feedback systems, and alignment with medical field needs.
