International intervention is still a complicated aspect of US foreign policy. However, the US military intervention in Libya in 2011 was a watershed moment in international relations because it was the first full-fledged test of the legal norm of Responsibility to Protect. As a result, this intervention sparked debate about the goals, strategies, and effects of such actions. In order to evaluate the intervention, this essay adopts a Liberal theory of international relations to explain the multifaceted issues of this intervention. By so doing, this article argues that the US military intervention was not solely about human rights; it extended to concerns about economy, promoting democracy, regional stability, and the potential for mass atrocities. The intervention sought to address these interconnected issues, reflecting the complexity of modern international relations.
