The Guerrilla Warfare: From Mao Tse Tung To The Algerian Revolution

Authors : Dib Abdelhafid .

Abstract

Guerrilla is derived from the Spanish word “Guerra” and literally means a little war. Its usages started from 19th century when Napoleon fought the Spanish peasants during the Peninsular war ( 1808- 1814 ), when the defeated Spanish forces broke up into small units to harass the Napoleonic armies and expel them from their territory and similar tactics were used by the Algerian resistance against the French colony since 1830 to 1962. The main characteristic principles of guerrilla warfare are based upon armed struggle which involved the mass movement by political indoctrination and through a well-planned organization which maintains a highly disciplined force in order to win sympathy from native people and gain unconditional popular support.
