This paper aims at identifying the effect of import and export flows on job creation and value-added in the Algerian manufacturing sector. Firstly, we analyze based on a range of data and statistics, the situation of the manufacturing sector in Algeria and secondly, we evaluate the impact of trade openness on the net creation of jobs and value-added. To capture this relationship, we employed a panel data model for a period spanning from 1991 To 2011 Our results indicate that openness is not always beneficial in terms of job creation and value-added, as defined and approved by the supporters of the classical theory of international trade, at least for a mono-exporting country such as Algeria
