Résumé

Today, the desalination of sea water is sometimes presented as the miracle solution to the problems of scarcity of drinking water. In addition to the fact that it remains financially inaccessible to poor countries (in income or in oil), these technologies are major consumers of energy and the question of their environmental impact is far from being resolved. Too often, the establishment of installation of desalination is a way to circumvent the problems of bad governance of the water and to circumvent the necessary reforms. Algeria has lived more than a decade of drought and also the conventional resources in water insufficient to meet the needs of the population. Those who have encouraged the Algerian authorities to look to other resources to ensure the drinking water supply in this population. The most suitable solution, which does not depend on the vagaries of weathers, was the desalination of sea water. The objective of our communication is to show why Algeria has opted for desalination as miracle solution for the problem of shortage of drinking water and the drought in Algeria. On the one hand, Algeria is affected by the impact of global climate change: increase of abnormal temperature, drought, of serious storms, a rate of rainfall very low in the western regions of the country; on the other hand, the process of desalination ha resolved for some regions of our country the problem of drinking water or running water in the home.
