In this work, we have studied simulated the influence of certain geometrical (period, radius) and physical (refractive index) parameters on the characteristics of the forbidden bands. The two-dimensional photonic crystals studied in this work are triangular and square structures formed by rods of Si, Ge and GaAS immersed in the air. It can be seen that the increase in the refractive index of the materials compared to that of the substrate as well as the geometric parameters increase the width of the band gap. In addition to that, the open bands move towards higher wavelengths. the results of simulations of the geometric parameters using Band Solve and Full Wave also showed that the variations of the forbidden bands have a Gaussian curve and that a maximum band around 1.55 µm is obtained for r=0.24 µm and a =0.4 µm. Descending linear change in the width of the band gap have been observed with the variation in the physical parameters.
Photonic crystal (CP); Photonic band gap (PBG); the transverse electric (TE); refractive index (RI), form factor (FF).
