This study discusses the use of modern technologies in developing the economies of developing countries. The motivation for the study stems from the challenges these countries face in managing their resources to achieve development, and from assessing the feasibility of using technology for economic advancement. This is explored through examining Sudan's experience in managing a specific sector. The study problem addressed measuring the impact of using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on the collection of government bills and the difficulty of predicting the energy needs of developing countries when using traditional systems to manage the electricity sector. The study holds significant importance in supporting economic decision-making at the level of developing nations. The methodology involved analyzing the situation before the adoption of modern technology, assessing the current state of its use, and evaluating the reality of these modern technologies. The study yielded several key findings: The use of technology in managing the electricity utility led to a decrease in electricity prices, an improvement in the overall efficiency of system operation, and, consequently, the successful collection of the value of consumed electricity. This contributed to reducing the total cost of production. Additionally, it improved the public's perception and increased their confidence in the utility's ability to handle outages. It also empowered citizens to reduce their energy consumption and encouraged conservation by requiring advance payment for electricity purchases. Furthermore, the electricity authority was able to create new job opportunities to meet the demand for engineers, technicians, skilled labor, and other supporting roles, thereby contributing to the reduction of unemployment. The study also produced a number of recommendations, chiefly advocating for the adoption of modern technology across all production sectors due to its role in enhancing resource management and utilization for sustainable development. It recommends that developing countries focus on broadband networks and Big Data infrastructure, while also emphasizing the importance of government expenditure on modern technology.
