Authors : Mansour Djalal .

Abstract

Abstract: The present paper aimed to disclose the facilitative factors that were conducive of Algerian doctoral students’ academic persistence and eventual obtention of the D.Phil. degree. Our subjects were previously doctoral candidates who applied and were granted their PhD. degrees at Algerian universities; they were all affiliated with English departments at different university institutions. Data needed in our undertaking was gathered by virtue of a semi-structured, virtually administered questionnaire. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the now doctors managed to eradicate all manner of available as well as potential attrition motives due overwhelmingly to 1) their constant, inwardly generated motivation, 02) their supervisors’ laudable contributions, 03) their insistence upon judiciously setting up deadlines at every novel juncture, 04) their aspirations for getting a job/better job and 05) besieging themselves with like-minded peers off-line and via online communities.
