The Effect Of Using Two Strategies Of Active Learning On The Development Of Reading Comprehension By Second Intermediate Class Female Students

Abstract

The research aimed at finding the “The Effect of Using Two Strategies of Active Learning on the Development of Reading Comprehension by Second Intermediate Female Class Students in English”. To achieve this objective, a major null hypothesis and three sub-null hypotheses were formulated. The design of equivalent groups with pre and post tests was used. The research sample included (102) female students taken from two schools intentionally selected from the Intermediate schools in Nineveh center. They were divided into three groups: the first experimental group included (32) female students taught according to Concept sort strategy. The second experimental group included (36) female students taught according to Read-Pair-Share strategy The third control group included (34) female students taught according to the conventional method. The researchers Prepared a tool to test the reading comprehension in English language. The tool included (19) items. The validity and reliability of the test are achieved in addition to its discrimination power. After finishing teaching the subjects according to the teaching plans prepared for the three groups and at the end of school semester, the instrument was applied on the subjects of the three research groups. After collecting data and processing them statistically by using the One-way Analysis of Variance and Sheveyh test, the results revealed: There is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores development of the two experimental groups and the mean scores development of the control group in pre-post tests of the reading comprehension with the favor of the two experimental groups.
