Deliberative Efl Teaching Through Empathic Lenses

Authors : Benosmane Naziha .

Abstract

Enhancing students’ skills in their EFL learning process cannot be simply limited to the mastery of the target language but relies greatly on some other affective and sociocultural aspects. Teaching is greatly based on interpersonal relationships. With the emergence of emotional intelligence, empathy in the foreign language classroom has been asserted as an important parameter to be considered by teachers and enhanced at learners. In this respect, the current paper is an attempt to determine the notion of empathy, its importance in the learning/teaching process, and to raise teacher’s role in creating an empathic classroom beneficial for the holistic development of the learners. Indeed, teachers need to reach out all the students through modelling empathy to meet the diversity of their students in terms of traits, abilities and needs.
