Diagnosing Peer-assessment Challenges In Writing Courses: Case Of Fourth Year Middle School Learners (mascara)

Authors : Boukabene Mira .

Abstract

This study aimed at diagnosing the problems that militate against middle school learners’ implementation of peer assessment in writing classes. To arrive at meeting this objective, a questionnaire was administered to 60 fourth year learners, 35 females and 25 males at the level of the middle school in Mascara (Algeria). The results revealed that the learners’ lack of practice, their low writing ability, teacher-assessment, and ignoring the key principles of peer-assessment procedure stand as the prime obstacles which prevent them from assessing their peers’ writing. Diagnosing those hindrances was the gateway towards promoting successful implementation of peer- assessment method in writing skill classes.
